What to Do in Xian

Xi'an, always contained in the popular China travel package, is known all over the world as the home to the Terracotta Army and the eastern terminus of the Silk Road.
Xi'an also rivals Athens, Cairo and Rome as one of the four ancient capitals in the world as the city has a history of more than 3,100 years, in which more than 1,100 years was as the capital city for 13 dynasties (there are still some debates over the number of dynasties which use Xi'an as their capital).
1. The Terracotta Army

The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of the China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. It became the Eighth Wonder of the World and a UNESCO world cultural heritage site in 1987. The Terracotta Army is one of many treasures and objects buried with the emperor to accompany him in his afterlife.
It was discovered in 1974 by a group of farmers who were digging a well. The Terracotta Army is one of the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. It is a sight not to be missed by any visitor to China.

2. Taste Xi'an cuisine (品尝西安美食)

Xi'an cuisine is well known throughout China and visitors to Xi'an must not come and go without tasting local snacks. Due to Xi'an's geographical location in the center of China, its snacks adopted various materials from both north and south China. Local cooking features frying, sauting, braising and frequent use of salt, vinegar, capsicum and garlic. Among the great variety of local snacks, Yang Rou Pao Mo (crumbled unleavened bread soaked in mutton stew), Rou Jia Mo (Shaanxi Sandwich), and Cold Rice Noodles are the most popular.
A renowned place to try local snacks is Muslim Street beside the Drum Tower. It is also a great place to go bargain hunting for small items of aircrafts.
3.City Wall (城墙)

Xi'an's City Wall is one of the oldest and best preserved city walls in China and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
Construction of the first city wall of Xi'an began in 194 BC and lasted for four years. The existing wall was started during the Ming Dynasty in 1370 and encircles 14 square kilometer of the city.
The City Wall has 18 gates, which are all open for tourists to ascend the wall. No matter which gate you choose to enter, you can tour the whole circle of the wall.
