The Paleolithic or ‘Old Stone’ Age began with the first use of stone tools. During this period, primitive people lived in caves, used stone and bone tools and wore fur and leather clothes. They were hunter gatherers. The Paleolithic Age began about 3,000,000 years ago and ended about 10,000 years ago. According to theory, the Paleolithic can be divided into three periods – low, middle and late, which follow the evolution of men including Homo erectus, earlier Homo sapiens and later Home sapiens.
About 1,000,000 to 500 000 years ago, there were primitive human beings in China such as Yuanmou Man in southwest Yunnan province (must-see for China travel deals), Lantian Man in northwest Shaanxi province, and Peking Man, in Zhoukoudian of Beijing according to archaeological findings. Two events made a great impact on the lives of primitive people at that time. Firstly, the making of primitive stone tools helped people collect foods directly from nature for efficiently; secondly, the use of fire, which was of profound significance in the evolutionary development of human beings.
