When the ChinaChina vacation deals was dominated by Feng Shui, the art of positioning building, graves or furniture, which was believed to bring positive or negative effect to the ones' life, most area of China had some building built according to this "science", including this pagoda. This seven-tier hollow Wenchang Pagoda was said to bring scholarly honor and advancement in one's career according to the explanation of Feng Shui. 'Wen' in Chinese means knowledge and 'Chang' means prosperous, when combined, it means the prosperous knowledge is made. As everybody has the wishes to enhance the capability of thinking, many of these kinds of structures were built in ancient China.
Features of Wenchang Pagoda
Also known as the Wenbi Pagoda Student tours to China, this Pavilion-Style Pagoda is a seven-storied octagonal building in a height of 36 meters.
Besides, there are many small doors in the shape of octagon. The doors facing north and south serve for decorative artificial pruposes, while the doors facing east and west are for ventilation purpose. The body of this pagoda is white while the corners and doors and red, giving visitors a feeling of plain but something unusual. While watching from distance, this pagoda looks like seven inverted lotus flowers, the flowers take on the smaller, the higher, with a dark red calabash at its pinnacle. Besides, from the top, looking southward, you will have a wonderful panoramic view of Beihai city.
Location
Wenchang pagoda China Photographing Tours was built in the year 1613 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), located about three kilometers (about two miles) from Hepu County.
