Learn the general knowledge about Huangshan

When you talk about Huangshan, there are two concepts involved. One is the Huangshan City (enjoy its beauty via Huangshan tour packages), which is situated in the south of Anhui Province. The other is Huangshan Mountain, which is located in the municipal territory, but 64 kilometers from city center.

Huangshan City is a region with a long history and splendid cultures. Shexian and Yixian Counties were established more than 2000 years ago. In the Jin Dynasty, Huangshan City was called Xin’an Shire. Until the Song Dynasty, when the name was changed to Huizhou, the city was famed for Hui businessmen, Hui carvings, Xin’an school of painting, Xin’an medicine, Hui architecture, Hui cuisine, and Hui operas. Also notable are the scenic spots of Yellow Mountain (must-see during your Huangshan travel) - a key point of interest in ancient China, the Tangyue Memorial Archway, The Tunxi Ancient Street and the ancient villages of Yixian County. Historians at home and abroad regard Huangshan City as natural history and culture museum of China. It has under its jurisdiction three districts (Tunxi, Huangshan, and Huizhou) and four counties (Shexian, Yixian, Xiuning and Qimen), which cover much of the area used to be known as Huizhou.
