Miao costumes and silver wears

The costume of Miao people is famous for its various styles and bright colours. Du Fu, one of the greatest poets in Tang Dynasty (618-907), wrote a famous poem to describe it: “Costumes of Wuxi people are as beautiful as colorful clouds in the sky.” There are more than one hundred styles of costumes for women, which is the most among Chinese ethnic groups. The traditional formal festival costume is typical in this aspect, for example, there are dozens of kinds of headdresses on their coiled hair.

Usually the women wear short coat with narrowed sleeves, wide collar and buttons on the middle line in front, and pleated skirt, which can be short that could not cover the knees or long that can reach the ankles. It is elegant and beautiful to wear them.
In casual occasions, women usually have a kerchief on the head, wear a wide button-line short coat and embroidery-laced long trousers, tie an embroidered apron, and dress up with a few delicate silver wears.

However, the men’s wear is relatively less complicated. They usually wear middle-line-buttoned short coat or right-buttoned long gown, and wrap the head with a cyan head kerchief.
The art of costume of Miao people lived in Leigongshan Area is the typical representative and essence of art of Miao costumes. Miao is an ancient ethnic group in China, and the Miao costume in Leigongshan Area has also formed and developed with the formation and development of their group.

The development of Miao costume has undergone a long history. In terms of cloth, tree leaves were used to cover the body at the beginning, and later animal skins were used.
